Thread: Follow me bags at the KBBC

Hi guys,

There seems to be some confusion over the use of follow me bags and live wells at the KBBC.

They are only to be used to keep a fish in until a marshal can get to you and not to keep several fish in until you want them to be weighed.

As soon as you catch a fish you need weighed...

• You must shout and raise your hand until you are acknowledged by a marshal, if it is going to take a marshal a while to get to you then you can put it in the bag and release it as soon as it has been weighed.

• You must not put a fish in the bag and not shout and raise your hand for a marshal to acknowledge you, you may not cull fish whatsoever.

• You must decide as soon as you've caught a fish whether you want it weighted or not, you may not put it in your bag if you are not 100% certain that you want it weighed.

They are only to be used to keep a fish in until a marshal can get to you and not to keep several fish in until you want them to be weighed.

AND what if you catch a fish while waiting for the marshall to come to you.....?

and only one could be in the bag....obviously you will be taking the bigger one...releasing the other one.....That Also counts as culling....

Shawn i do understand what you are expecting from everyone, but in my opinion it is not realistic. I have waited on to 15 minutes for a marshal before if not longer and if you got a good bite going you could pick up 3 fish fast, this is where the problem will be coming in. And just relying on everyone's good nature to not cull is not realistic.

If this is going to be allowed then you are opening a window for culling (cheating) even though it is against the rules.

Retail surveys have shown that.

10% of people will not steal or cheat even if they know they can get away with it.

80% of people will steal or cheat if they think they can get away with it.

10% will steal and cheat even if they know they will get caught.

That means from a field of 50 given the opportunity (culling from follow me bags) 5 people will cheat and cull fish and would not give a damm. 40 people would cheat and cull if they thought they could get away with it and there would only be 5 honest people who would not cheat regardless.

The bags are big enough to keep 2 or 3 fish in as long as you don't get into a shoal of pigs. Now that I'm motorised and we have a small bank of marshals to rely on we can get to you quicker.

The golden rule is that if you think you may be culling then you probably are! lol

You are reading it wrong...

It looks like a contradiction but it's not... what I meant by the first point is that it's not up to you when you want fish to be weighed, if it or they go in the bag then it will be assumed that it is your intention to weigh it/them, if it's your intention to weigh it/them then they must not be taken out of the bag, this will be considered culling. Culling = disqualification.

Noted Rob, which is why we are not all that keen on the bags, we're just trying to find a solution to the whole weighing/marshaling thing which has been our biggest challenge so far.

Culling is the easiest sollution but it will take the fun out of it.

"Whoops, oh dear how the heck did that slip out of my hands". I suppose this bigger fish I just caught will have to be weighed instead.

Or Oh look no one is around and I just caught a bigger fish, sploosh, bye bye small fish.

All i have to say on this matter is that as soon as you are going to introduce follow me bags, there will be cheating. Especially now that the venues are getting bigger. I stand by my view that this is not a realistic decision that is being made.
