i guys.
i feel that i need to share a story with you and also share what i feel to be useful contact.
about a month ago, i was on bronkies with steve and his son. after fishing for a few hours i cranked my motor, it started, but with it came a very broken noise. took the boat off the water checked what we could to no avail.
i have been using a mechanic by the name of grant hulme who was based at water world. this guy goes the mile!!! which is why i use him.
i didnt know what had happened inside the motor but when grant turned the motor all he could was 'thats an expensive noise'. bearing in mind that i have taken my boat to him for +- 3 yrs and have had loads of work done on the house, you know the expression ' ag, we can sort it out later' comes out of his mouth often.
the problem that i faced was that i had promised to skipper the jnrs which was in a weeks time and the guys were battling to find skippers.
anyway it turned out to be a broken crank shaft which could have easily cost R30000. finding the part also was an issue.
the the part arrived from the cape wed morn, i had to be at the skippers meeting that eve at 7, since the jnrs were practising the following day(thurs).
grant commited and i drove out of the premises at approx 10pm wed eve boat in tow. grants daughter was having her matric dance that same eve, and in between dropping her at the dance and collecting her and working on the motor and then dropping her in midrand for the after party coming back and continuing to finish the motor so that in his words 'the kids dont go short'.
i got to rusties that wed eve just before 12.
successful jnrs tournament over time to pay. grant gives me the breakdown of cost and he had made not a cent!!!!!!!! i paid the supplier of the shaft directly and the piston payment was made to grant.
guys if you know grant please continue to support him. i know mechanics are often a contraversial issue, but from my own experiences with him i can only say that no matter what he is a fantastic person and has an incredible knowledge of water craft. if i can be of any assistance to anybody looking for a reliable and very good makky, please let me.
