    Hugo,

I used to have a 200 Vmax on my VX 70. I was very happy with the motor. When I originally started looking for an outboard I did a comparison of all 200HP motors. In terms of weight / kW / price, the Vmax came out tops. I have to add that I bought mine new and did not have to face the minefield that is secondhand outboards...

There is a lot to look out for when buying secondhand and chances are that both these motors had been damaged before. The reality is that the majority of secondhand motors were replaced because of problems be it gearbox, head unit, over-heating or fuel problems.

Thanks ruffneck, opinion heard, the efi is being sold coz the guy has no one to service it where he lives, he even plans on just keeping it as a spare and getting a carb motor, why i dont know, will find out on the vmax and report back

Hugo, it's always difficult to believe a seller, but I believe there are a few good deals to be had lately. I am chewing on finger nails here, and the reality is that with the financial damage from the recession, if things don't take a turn soon, I will be looking at selling my 175 for a smaller, more economical 125... just food for thought in these times, but generally speaking, Ruffy is right... guys get tired of spending money on faulty motors, and sell them to make it someone else's problem.

    Hugo,

Why not ask Craig from Mobile Marine Services if he could check out the motor for you? I am sure he will be more than willing to assist and will save you a lot of trouble in the future.

NO NO NO. I have had no experience with the Vmax motors. All I'm saying is watch out for dodgy deals.
