Jake the area we are fishing on the 6th was out of bounds to us on Saturday, the structure is totally different and in 3 weeks time the conditions should be totally different (hopefully no wind).

I understand that completely, but things like what kind of fodder fish did you spot ( I gathered that you saw a whole lot of kurper, but what species?). Did you see a lot of yellowfish or other Barbus species? What lures did you use to match the hatch?
At what depths did most of your catches come and what was the preferred stucture?
You only have to share your info if you think its fair, I looked at Madporra's vote about sharing info and most voted that its okay to share.

canary kurper and vlei kurper are very abundent as are mosquito fish, there are thousands of them all over the dam. The yellows were active all day and there are large schools of Mogal and lots of carp and large barbel. As far as structure is concerned we had the options of holes in the grass or up in the shallows against the bank/reeds, but as I said this was in the river section, the dam section should have different structure or at least more options.

I dont think any one even attempted a crank in all the grass so it would of been hard to match the hatch.

Sorry jake i am not being difficult but so far Boskop has only presented opportunities for plastics. I mentioned in my report that my most productive colors were W Red and Madi Gra. I am looking forward to the next comp to try out different approaches.

Thank you very much, pomerob. I shall not be able to pre fish the dam, so I am trying to get as much info as possible. The info you just supplied already gives me an idea of what to stock-up on for my tackle box. When fish like yellows and tilapia co-exist, bass would prefer to feed on the yellowfish rather than the tilapia due to the wide profile and the spiny dorsal fin of the tilapia. So I would ASUME that slender bait like flukes would do better than bulkier baits. I also believe that color would also play a big roll in the fact that colors matching the yellows rather than the tilapia would preform better. BUT if the energy spent chasing down one yellow out weighs dealing with a bulkier, spinier prey then kurper inmations might work better. Thanks again.

personally I thought the fact that Madi Gra was successful (blueish purple, when mixed with green) indicated that they were readily feeding on the small male canary kurper. lol, I suppose a lot of it is down to interpretation.

Dont forget the watermelon gold.the winning bag came from it.i dropped 2 from a black blue jig pitched into the pockets of grass.only caught on weightless and the bites from some were aggressive while others u watched the bass inhale the lure.most takes were on the drop so pay attention to your line.cant give all tips away.
