Hey Duritz...caught a 20cm bass...it was fun though. I must say that the dam is not very clean...maybe I just took a bad spot... All in all...I had fun & caught a fish...

Hi guys...here is my eventful trip...to Emmarentia... I started off at Emmarentia at about 6.15am. The weather was good with the ever threatening clouds around. It was the first time fishing at Emmerantia - so I really didnt know where to begin. I drove across the dam wall and then entered the Botanical Gardens. Little did I know that you can actually park there and walk down to the dam. I drove out of the parking and then made my way across the road. I parked close to the canoe club as that was the only place that had some parked cars. I parked and walked down to the dam making my way between some reeds and the overhanging willow tree. Atleast I had enough space to cast between the tree and reeds. i did catch the bench on an occasion or two. I started of with a variation of the Hammills Killer. That didnt seem to have any luck. I changed over to the Brown Muddler - still no luck. I even tried the Red-Eyed Damsel but it also didnt cause the fish to come anywhere near. I was now beginning to lose some patience but decided to stay calm and changed to the black Woolly Bugger. I didnt have an immediate strike. I cast close to the willow tree and the reeds on the opposite side with no luck. I then saw some action on the surface just as the canoe went pass. I decided to cast in that direction...started drawing in the line slowly. I then felt the line get some tension. I picked my rod up to set the hook. I was ON!!! It was no large fish by any means. I did have some fun as I pulled the fish in by hand and not the reel - reeling it in would have meant me losing some of the action. I then brought the fish in and removed the fly. I then got the picture taken...a whole 20cm of BASS! A little disappointed at the size, but a fish was better than nothing at all. Maybe I will have better luck next time...

Thanks Craig. I am sure that with the baitcaster things will become easier. I did roll cast a few times, but it disturbs the water surface. I dont know if this is fine as the bass might be skittish... Guys, can you tell me how deep the dam is around the sides, say about 15-20m. Do i let my line and fly sink before starting the retrieve etc...??? Also, what do I have to use in respect to plastics at Emmarentia...
