I heard that 2 silly people had a bet and jumped off the Vaal Dam wall. They were apparently found near Millionaires Bend with broken limbs for Africa......

I have seen this before just after Cyclone Demoina. The river certainly changes heavily. It gets washed clean. All the shallow banks are deeper and all your hidden stumps and brushpiles have relocated..... Loch Vaal will be the hot spot for a few years to come. All the brush will be down there.........

    Ha ha

OK, so someone has already embellished on the REAL truth but seriously, what kind of crazy jumps into water that can break walls, trees, and other goodies that are far stronger than the human body. Eish, the power of the Klippies and Coke, she is great.

Keep an eye on the tip of bird island. The big debris (trunks and so forth) often washes up onto the shallow flats. Some will be visible, most will be invisible. The water is generally only 3 foot deep there so do not go flying around.... Also look in the bay just before bird island. The small stream that feeds the bay often washes nice structure into that bay. Some of the big items from the main river also wash into this bay, tight against the upriver edge of bird island. There are nice drop offs here but you will need a good unit to go and make accurate recordings and weigh points of all this structure.

Use your geography lessons now to imagine where the river would drop some of it's load. Example: Just after the Klip River confluence, the Vaal itself drops down to a much deeper depth. This means slower water so maybe you will find some good structure a few hundred meters down..... Fish finders don't only find fish, they find structure. I fully expect loads of structure to show up in weird and unexpected places

My friend and I fished the Vaal for the first time a month or so ago. Could you send us the co-ords of bird island?
