Hi Guys, I was introduced to Bass Angling in 1982 and was a member of Transvaal Bassmasters, the founding Bass Chapter headed up by Alan Ross- Smith and the late Charles Norman and Gill Egbury.
Met and fished alongside Gordon Robertson amongst others. This group later broke away and formed Western Bassmasters, where I vaguely recall meeting Charlie Leach, of Border.
Transferred to Natal in 1985 and joined Ken Ainslie's Natal Coastals and witnessed many a commitee meeting contested by Tim Williams and his merry men!
Owned the second Bass Bandit out the mold built by Pete Cloete of Seacraft, Benoni.Had much fun with John Bulpitt in setting up this state of the art boat, complete with a 40 hp Yamaha,a 23 lb thruster and a Furuno paper graph fish finder !
Competed with my sons Jason and Donovan in the Natal league up until 1989, without quite making the representative level. A divorce necessitated liquidating my assets and regretfully the Bandit became a victim.
From 1991 until 2002 fished in harbours, esturies, rivers and anywhere in the salt where there were fish and targetted marine species, with beefed up bass tackle. Lots of fun, taken to the cleaners plenty and indellible memories filled that period.
Moved to George, in the Cape in 1998 and joined Outeniqua Bassmasters in 2002. Qualified for the Eastern Division after completing the mandatory 2 year period and have fished at Divisional level ever since.
Presidents and Protea honours have been achieved since.
Have competed and enjoyed many money comps throughout the country and ultimately see myself spending more time in this persuit in the future.
Joined this forum so help quench the thirst that Bass fever creates !
