    Default Boat Motor

A cousin of mine bought a mercury 80hp for 16,000.i still have to have it tested but they said it had just come back from a service.if it is in good nick all we need is a hull but my question is how do you know what hull size to buy for the engine?

Joe, there are a few that come to mind. Yip, it's a difficult decision, but the Osprey that BigB organised for his mate was running at Inanda with a 60Hp and I was extremely impressed with it. Id' say 14ft will be fine, so that's in the range of Osprey, Dragonfly, Zim Ranger, Scout etc. They are all an option for that size motor. You will then have to find the prop best suited for the motor / hull combination.

    Joe,

I would say up to a 16ft / 4.9m boat should be spot on.

I agree with all the above - a 16 footer would be the max.

    Hello Drew,
I am going to take a boat out for a test drive on Sunday that i saw for sale on the side of the road near where i stay.it is a speed boat at present and has a 50hp mercury on the back.it still looks very neat and the good thing is that there is a lot of potential to make a deck and lockers etc.my plan is not to rush into anything.i would like to perhaps purchase this boat (with a little financial help from my boet) the guy will probably accept 8k for it and it is on a trailer with a cover.my aim is to spend the rest of the year getting it ready so i can fish the esa next year.what do you guys think?
