Default Sabaa silver fish-off inanda 20/21 september

    Silver Fish-Off – Inanda

The fish-Off was called off at about 10am on Saturday due to the k@k weather and poor turn out which was to be expected.

About 10 boats decided not to waste the weekend and decided to have an in-house compo on Saturday for the biggest bass. I cant remember much about Saturday coz my brain along with the rest of my body was frozen stiff. I do however remember that the fishing was not too bad and we pretty much caught fish the entire day. We concentrated mainly on the points around Mad House and Taxi Bay. Ken lost another dog at the mad mouse which gave us one show of its head and then headed for a tree where it wrapped him up and got away. The fish on our boat averaged around the 1 kg mark with the biggest being 1.6kg. The biggest fish weighed on Saturday was 1.9kg. Our fish were caught mainly on black and junebug trickworms, flukes and deadringers.

The best part of Saturday was having a nice braai and a couple of drinks with some new fishing buddies J

We woke up on Sunday to find it still overcast and with rain coming down in buckets, despite the forecast of sunny skies………? We decided to wait it out and at about 7h00 the rain stopped and the clouds cleared. The weather was mostly sunny with the occasional gale force wind which disappeared as quickly as it arrived.

We decided to give the clean water a bash and headed to the hump and barbel bay where we got a few tidlers but the wind made it difficult to control the boat so we decided to head for the cliffs for some shelter. We worked our way around Andre’s point and into Diana bay. At the back of the bay I pitched a black trickworm against some rocks and felt the very familiar tap-tap and gave it horns. At first it felt like one of the 1kg class fish we’ve been catching all weekend but when it jumped………..”GET THE NET”…..after a few tense moments Ken netted my new PB………a nice 2.7kg fooshie!!!!! (I will upload some pics tomorrow when I get them). That fish made the entire weekend worthwhile.

The rest of the day went by too quickly and we were off the water at about 3pm.

Roll on Goedies …….27 September 2008 when hopefully I will thrash this measly PB of mine.

    Hi Jos.

Nice to see you jumping into the forums here.

Well done on the PB, and more importantly, well done for simply hitting the water in such horrendous weather. I certainly don't get out there if it's that uncomfortable. I'm sure Goedetrouw will produce some nice fish for you guys. Tight lines.
Get the NET!!... never mind it's off, just bring beer

Firstly well done on your PB Jos.

It was supposed to be the first SABAA Silver fish off’s on Sat and Sun at Inanda, and I awoke to rain and wind. As the start time was only 10am on Saturday, I waited to see if the rain would stop but to no avail. I get reel cranky (excuse the pun’s) when I can’t fish so Cam & I (against better judgement) hooked the boat and arrived at the dam at 10:30. It was pouring and there were only five other cars there and a few campers and no SABAA. Oh well, we were there anyway so might as well have a throw or two. First stop was Cactus and on the first cast with GWF, I was on and landed a nice keeper. I have never seen the water level so low and it was interesting to see why we catch fish off certain spots now that they are exposed. Both Cam and I picked up a couple of fish, mine on GWF and his on jighead creature. Despite the rain and overcast conditions, not a nibble on top water.

The wind started blowing and our hands and feet were ice so we went in search of protected bays. We hit a couple of points between Cactus and Carbody, ending up at Libby’s. We managed fish at each spot with the GWF producing on most of the first casts. The three bigger fish were around 1-1,5kg, but most were around 600g mark and we found them either suspending next to drop offs at 10ft or at brush piles in 25ft. At about 14:00 we couldn’t stand it anymore and headed back. As we hit the top of the hill we found a truck had jack knifed and blocked the road. We hastily did a u turn and headed back to the dam. After numerous calls to John and Drew we soon realised there wasn’t another feasible route out, so we had to wait for the truck to be moved. It was boring just sitting in the bakkie, so we launched again and this time headed for the dam wall. We fished the bays to the left of the wall and landed a number of “samples” mostly on jighead. At 16:30 we called it a day and fortunately the truck had been moved so we could get out.

I need to figure out a safe alternative route out of Inanda, as if the road gets blocked for whatever reason, we are literally stuck. Here’s hoping the boat will be dry in time for Bivane.
